colors etc in console programs

colors etc in console programs
I have been writing console programs for some time, and the black and
white is getting boring. i was wondering what you all think is the
best way to get colored text/backgrounds in the console, and how
difficult it is to implement. Thanks in advance

I think it would be better if you explain which platform you are
using
If You are using Linux u can use ncurses to display colourfull chars
If you are using DOS(with Turbo c) search graphics.h there will be
functions which will help you
