help with installing community scripts
Here`s my problem. I own the Phoenix Stories
domain (<a href=http://www.phoenixstories.org/
target=new>http://www.phoenixstories.org/</a>) which is part of
the City Stories project
(<a href=http://www.citystories.com/ target=new>http://www.citystories.com/</a>)
and I`m trying to get it up by March. The
wonderful guys at Seattle Stories
(<a href=http://www.seattlestories.net/
target=new>http://www.seattlestories.net/</a>) sent me the scripts (the whole
gigantic lot of
them) to run a site similarly to how theirs runs, but
I`ll need a knowledge of Perl and mySQL to install it,
and I have neither. Furthermore, there is *no*
documentation on how to do it - you`d be going into it with
just the scripts and your intuition.<br><br>What I`m
needing is someone who is willing to donate the time and
experience to installing this program for me. I can`t afford
to pay you, but I will certainly give you credit
(and linkage aplenty) on the site when it goes live,
and of course my unending love and thanks. If anyone
is interested in taking on the challenge let me know
at Raedyke@.... Thanks muchly.<br><br>Sheana

First of all, you need to determine if your host
server supports Perl, cgi and mySQL.<br><br>Installing
the scripts is as simple as uploading them to your
site, using FTP, and setting the correct
permissions.<br><br>There may be some editing of the scripts required to
tailor it for your
site/community.<br><br>Greg<br>uksites4all.co.uk

yea, if your server has Perl/cgi/and mySQL, ask
the people who sent you the script if they had to do
any manual editting of the files. If they did, ask
what they did and follow, if not, then you`ll probably
just have to upload them and set permissions. (775 for
.cgi files, and 777 for data files, not sure about
databases and other file types)
