php:template[ Smarty] problem

hi

i am using the php template first time and for it i am using smarty
and for that i had referred the the url
http://smarty.php.net/quick_start.php and i have done the all
procedure according the url refrence. My apache user name is apache
and my document root is /var/www/html and so i have changed according
to this in my smarty configuration. and i had executed the same
example given in the url. but i am not able to execute the pages on
browser and the error in httpd/error_log is:

PHP Fatal error: Smarty error: unable to write to $compile_dir
`/var/www/smarty/templates_c`. Be sure $compile_dir is writable by the
web server user. in /usr/lib/php/Smarty/Smarty.class.php on line 1088

please help me to sort it out. i am using the fedora-3 as OS. and php-4.3

php:template[ Smarty] problem

I think you can solve the problem by
altering the write permision for the folder /var/www/smarty/templates_c`.

you can use CHMOD to change the folder permision attribut.

I my self use the smarty template,

I always put smarty folder out of the www folder
ex. :
/var/lib/smarty
