Hate to sound negative, but thought there was a general agreement that
posting marketing literature was not in the best interests of the group.
If that agreement is not to hold, I`m sure that many participants,
including us, have marketing stories they would love to tell. If that
were to happen, the group would become little more than a sales aid for
XML-related software. Hate to see that happen.

Barry

True, but I guess there`s a fine line between some product/service
announcements and marketing literature. I wouldn`t want to discourage
anybody from posting relevant product or service announcements.
Seems like that particular one did veer into marketing hype a little and
was probably a little longer than it needed to be, but still basically
intended in good-faith, I think, to be a product announcement.

Well, I can make sure that doesn`t happen. Actually, I already manuallly
moderate out a certain amount of irrelevant stuff and outright spam that
"drive by" new subscribers attempt to post. The pattern that these
follow is that somebody signs up for the list and then, within a few
minutes (I can tell from looking at activity logs for the list) submits
a posting for whatever it is they`re trying to promote (and in a lot of
cases, unsubscribes after posting that one message). I mod those out
before they ever get to the list.
