It depends on what you want the list to do.
EasyListBox is a commercial component which can do checkboxes (see
http://easylistbox.com/demoMultiDropDown.aspx -- this is a multiselect dropdown,
but you can tell it to display as a listbox) and a hundred other things (see the
other demos in the left menu). Also, you don`t need to use CTRL to select
multiple items in your listbox.
Alternatively, if you want a free (unsupported) bare-bones control that gives
you checkboxes in a list, you can use Andy Smith`s CheckedBoxList control (
http://metabuilders.com/Tools/CheckedListBox.aspx ), which does the one thing
you want it to do.

I was looking this morning for a custom control that combines the
listbox with the checkbox, ie each item in the listbox has a checkbox
to the left margin to enable selection, instead of just bolding and
using shift control keys.
should I attempt to build a custom control or attempt to purchase such
a control on the internet
