consider using sockets for this. i can think of only sockets

Hello,
I want to create a chat application, whereby a client can directly communicate
with the other friend without pass thru my database (mysql in this case). Of
course prior conversation they have to get authenticated from the database
server
I have created a simple HTML + php page as follows....
<form action = " chatpage.php3" method = "post">
Name:<input type = "text" name="name"> <br>
Message: <input type="text" name="message"><br>
<input type="Submit" value = "Send">
</form>
Here my question is how can I can create a direct communication with other
end, without passing though MySQL as I know it will be slow interms of message
delivery.
Any word of help is highly appreciated,
