running script without leaving web page

Is this possible. I have two forms on one html page. The first one
consists of a checkbox only. If checked and click submit button, I am
trying to have this form run a perl script that runs a system
command. It is a long command that uses the cvs command and rdiff
argument (and grep) to create a list of files that have been checked
in during a specified time. The output is redirected to a text file.
I would like the page that contains the forms to remain visible while
the script is running the command. Then user can make selections from
second form.
