STC TAC Conference - DITA Workshop and more - Sept 28 - 30 B
Dear Technical Communications Professional,
You are cordially invited to attend the 14th Conference of the
Transalpine Chapter of the Society of Technical Communications (STC)
from 28 September to 30 September 2005 at the Canadian Embassy in
Berlin, Germany. This three day event, which is hosted by local
members of the chapter in cooperation with the Embassy of Canada,
will bring technical communicators from Europe and North America
together to learn about the latest developments in our field and to
assess the changing nature of our profession.
Michael Priestley, Information Developer for the IBM Toronto Software
Development Laboratory, will conduct a one-day workshop about the
Darwin Information Typing
Architecture (DITA) on Wednesday. The workshop will give you an
introduction to this open format and show you how to author technical
information with the XML-based architecture. You can register for the
workshop separately or attend the whole conference, which begins on
Thursday and ends with a champagne reception on Friday. During the
conference, you will have the opportunity to network with colleagues
and join the following sessions, which have already been confirmed:
Andrea Ames, Past President of STC, and Michael Priestley will make
the keynote speech about the business case at IBM for the
componentization of taskoriented information.
Dr. Andrew Bredenkamp of Acrolinx GmbH will focus on quality
assurance in technical documentation.
Kim Harris of Text&Form will explain the preparations you need to
make before localizing your documentation materials.
Ute Mitschke will speak about PDFMark, technology from Adobe Systems
that extends the functionality of Acrobat Distiller.
Michael Mittag will review different content management systems on
the market.
Martin Maynard of the SWIFT financial services organization will
demonstrate a case study about their use of an XML-based content
management system.
Klaus Fenchel of Ovidius GmbH will discuss XML publishing tools
Alice Jane Emanuel will give a humorous and entertaining overview of
STC`s technical communications competition in Europe.
The insight and benefits you will gain during this conference well
exceed the cost. At a price of 100 Euros for TAC members, 125 Euros
for STC members, and 150 Euros for non-members, we believe we are
offering you a tremendous value. In comparison with other events of
its kind, the one day workshop, which has a separate cost of 225
Euros for STC members and 250 Euros for non-members, is an
opportunity you do not want to miss.
Complete conference details are available at the TAC Web site
(http://www.stc-transalpine.org/conference) where you can register
online and find further information about travel and accommodations
in Germany`s capital city.
We look forward to seeing you in Berlin!
Jang Graat
President, STC Transalpine Chapter
