ActivePerl is the standard Perl compiled for Windows by ActiveState, and
includes some additional standard modules and a packaging system for
additional downloads.
I don`t know whether it runs on DOS. I`ve never owned a machine that could
run either Windows or DOS.

ActivePerl is a distribution of Perl. If you are using Windows,
ActivePerl is your best alternative.

DOS? I did not know anybody used that anymore ;-)
Yes you can run Perl under DOS. You need to compile it though. Read the
following:

Hope it helps.

what is ActivePerl?
Hello all,
I`ve been tasked with writing some kind of server side code to download
a file (a jpg) from the client`s computer to a new printer we`re making.
Is this even possible? I wrote a JavaScript to open a jpg file, convert
it to base 64 and save it as an xml file but... I can`t read a binary
file without losing bits and pieces and I have know idea if this
JavaScript file process will even work like it supposed to.
Do any of you have any idea if I`m barking up the wrong tree here? How
can I automate uploading files from the client`s computer to the server
and then reading them?
Thank you in advance,
Steve
